2022 Row X Row Wine Notes

2022 Row X Row Riesling

Wine Notes:

The vinification of our Riesling is centred around traditional methods to respect the fruit. The grapes were harvested just after midnight and quickly crushed and drained in the winery with only free run being used. Cold settled for 48 hours the clarified juice was racked, warmed, and inoculated with yeast. A cold fermentation was maintained between 12 and 14℃ for 2 weeks. The ferment was halted with around 2g/L residual sugar to help balance the natural acid and is still considered ‘dry’ in style. The wine was stabilised and filtered before being bottled early in May to capture the vibrant fruit character.

The 2022 Riesling has a generous and layered bouquet of citrus blossom, lemon and lime fruit with hints of mandarin and musk sticks. The citrus flavours follow onto the palate with the addition of grapefruit, and a crisp, refreshing acid that entices the fruit all the way to the back palate. The taste of lemon sherbet is evident on the finish of this generous and yet delicate wine.

2022 Row X Row Fiano

Wine Notes:

Handpicked in the early hours of the morning, the fruit was crushed into the press for a few hours of skin contact. Once some phenolics were extracted the juice was pressed to a stainless steel tank for settling. The free run and pressings juices were combined with some light solids for fermentation in a small tank. The juice was inoculated and fermented dry in 14 days at 12-17℃. The wine was sulphured up quickly for protection and then heat and cold stabilised for bottling in May.

This Fiano is light straw yellow in colour and has a lifted bouquet of nashi pear, honeysuckle flowers and citrus blossom. Underneath there are tropical and melon fruits with hints of spice. These bright fruit flavours compliment the fresh, crisp palate and its vibrant acidity, which is balanced by a lovely, slight grip of phenolics on the finish. A refreshing wine with a wonderful textural component.

2022 Row X Row Rosé

Wine Notes:

Just under two tonne of handpicked Grenache from our Manjalda vineyard was destemmed straight into the press without sulphur for 2 hours. The pressings were blended back into the free run after a light fining. The juice was cold settled for 48 hours then roughly racked to tank for fermentation. The fluffy solids were included for extra flavour and texture. Once dry the wine was transferred with light lees to old French oak. Regular stirring occurred before the wine was racked out and heat and cold stabilised, ready for bottling in May.

Vintage 2022 has a beautiful salmon pink colour with a perfumed nose of jasmine blossom, pink lady apple and guava fruit. The palate is softly textured and rich in flavours of juicy strawberries and watermelon. The sweetness of the fruit is balanced beautifully with fresh, vibrant acidity followed by a creamy finish.
